How We Worship…in Word, Song & Community
Sunday Worship
Sunday worship at Bridgenorth United is at 11 am.
Our Sunday services honour our BUC mission statement and our United Church statement of faith — A Song of Faith — as we praise God and explore the messages of Jesus’ teachings for us, and in community how we are called to share these gifts of the Spirit with others.
Any changes to this regular schedule will be noted on the Events Calendar.
Special Sundays
EVERY Sunday is special at Bridgenorth, and SOME Sundays are even more special!
We sometimes experience “cafe worship” complete with balloons, glitter and invited conversation DURING the service! We’ve even had a WEDDING on a Sunday morning, AND we all love the “themed antics” our beloved Minister gets up to with our monthly inter-generational worship services. All of these special Sundays will be noted on the Events Calendar.
Choir
We have a rich musical history at Bridgenorth United Church. Our accomplished choir works diligently under the direction of our Music Director Wendy to provide gifts of music for Sunday worship, and for special occasions during the year. The choir can also be accompanied by guitar, mandolin, djembe (drum) and the musical instruments in our “littles’’ play boxes. Clapping, foot-tapping and big smiles will regularly be heard and seen.
Practices are held Thursday afternoons at 4:30 pm and anyone (all ages and stages!) who would like the community of a music ministry through shared voice are WELCOME to practice, and sing on Sundays.
Tarnished Angels (Praise Band)
Over a decade ago, there was a vision for a more contemporary music sound (aka a “youth band”), as part of our service. We rounded up some “young-at-heart” musicians and voices and eventually came up with “Tarnished Angels” as the name – it fits well! While band members have come and gone over the years, the ministry of music remains a central mission of this group, adding light, life and even original songs to our congregational worship. Our Angels practice Monday evenings; new talent is welcome – please speak to Wendy in the office.
Celebrate Sundays (Children’s Church), Messy Church and Inter-Generational Worship
We get it! Life is hectic for young families and we’ve been told that monthly attendance is attainable. While we intentionally create space for all ages on a weekly basis, we have a story-based children’s program each month known as Celebrate Sundays where “our littles” get to hang together in their own space part of the time. These Sundays which include Rally Sunday (September), Children’s Sunday (November) and Holy Humour Sunday (February) are engaging for all ages – the young, and the young at heart!.
Another name we use for “inter-generational worship” is MESSY CHURCH! It’s NOT on Sundays…and it’s not every week! It’s not even every MONTH! It is a periodic, themed, family-oriented, kid-friendly dinner with fun games, opportunities for young and old to get to know one another better, share some laughs, and create community together.
Our Events Calendar will have all the dates – and watch our BUC Facebook page.
Listening and Viewing Past Sunday Services
Not able to join us in person on a Sunday? We completely understand; illness and commitments happen.
If you are a Facebook user, follow us LIVE on Facebook @Bridgenorth United most Sundays at 11 am. Catch up with us during the service or afterward in the comments, or on a future Sunday in person. Past recorded services are available on our Bridgenorth United Church Vimeo video channel.
If you would like to have an in-person visit or telephone conversation with our minister, please contact Rev. Cathy through the Church Office to make an appointment.
Please note: There are rare occasions where we do not record the service due to logistics.
If it’s SUMMER, it is time for COMPASSION CAMP!
Compassion Camp is a week-long morning program of songs, stories, games and crafts for children 4 to 11 years old. TOGETHER with them IN COMMUNITY, we explore what compassion looks like from their perspective, inspired by the teachings of Jesus. There are activities for the body, mind and Spirit – and yes…those “themed snackies” are ALWAYS a hit!
Watch the Events Calendar for the July 2025 dates coming soon.
